"The people we dealt with were wonderful and helped my mother die at home which was our family's wish for her."
Hospice works with the patient and family to alleviate the emotional stress that can be experienced during this very difficult time. This is done through:
- Social workers who provide individual and/or family counseling, as well as supportive health teaching
- Professionally facilitated support groups that are available to patients, family members and friends
- Help facilitating goals and patient advocacy
Our number one goal is to make this stage of a patient’s life, and that of their loved ones, better than if we weren’t there – to act as a “guide” for the final journey.
Hospice staff often go above and beyond to help achieve patient goals:
PAJAMA PARTIES NOT JUST FOR KIDS!
Sam Oliverio was most comfortable in his pajamas and had no desire to get dressed, but longed to be outside as good weather approached. In order to help Sam achieve his goal, his hospice nurse and social worker showed up at his door in their pajamas and hosted an outdoor pajama party for Sam and his wife. Several times after the visit, Sam was very comfortable visiting his neighbors in his pajamas.

"Being at home was just what my husband wanted. It allowed him to pass with dignity while remaining with those who loved him." |
